Facade Restoration

Designed by Emory Roth, this 14-story tony apartment building is located in the Expanded Carnegie Hill Historic District.  The building is a neo-federal design with a two-story limestone base and carved limestone bands at the third and sixth floors.  There are traditional limestone window lintels at the third, fourth and fifth floor windows with most other windows constructed with simple steel lintels devoid of any decorative detailing.  The building has both masonry and limestone quoining as well.  Decorative glazed terra cotta were used as decorative spandrels, window surrounds and lintels at the 13th (14th) and 14th (15th) floors of the main building facade.  Our professional architectural services included restoration and remedial repairs of the building facades and rear fire escapes.  This building is well maintained.  However, existing fenestration installed prior to NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission designation creates a lack of uniformity from the new required 6 over 1 window design.  Nonetheless, this is still a noteworthy building designed by Emory Roth.
