Roof and Facade Restoration

801 West End Avenue is located in the Riverside – West End Historic District Extension II and was designed by Neville & Begge, Architects. This excellent Art Nouveau-style masonry and terra cotta apartment building, originally named Bennington Corners, was built in 1911. Our scope of work included restoration of the flamboyant full-story terra cotta parapet, masonry restoration from the 10th Floor to the roof and the installation of new structural steel roof framing as well as new roof system design. Restoration of the terra cotta parapet required mapping and tagging of each block for repair, reglazing and reinstallation. Deteriorated structural steel was repaired, reinforced or totally replaced with new steel framing. In some locations, structural roof steel was replaced in occupied apartments with extreme care and safety measures. Our restoration of the existing West End copper cornice involved removal of sections to replace deteriorated structural supports and re-anchorage of the decorative copper cornice sections.
