This classic post-World War II white glazed masonry apartment building was built in 1962 and known as The Colony House. Designed by Sylvan Bien, Architect, the building is located in the Upper East Side Historic District. The design of the contemporary canopy with its clean lines and details was strongly influenced by the unadorned white glazed masonry façade and fenestration as well as the contemporary Givenchy corner anchor store.
Our design was approved by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and Friends of the Upper East Side. The design of the new entrance canopy expanded to the existing traditional wood paneled lobby which was redesigned as a contemporary interior with slabs of Crema Marfil marble for floors and walls. Contemporary LED lighting, exquisite interior furniture quality, walnut wood panels and new modern handicapped accessible lift transformed the existing dark interior to a space filled with light and street visibility.
