Built in 1908, The Apthorp is an Italian Renaissance Revival palazzo originally designed by Clinton & Russell for William Waldorf Astor. The Apthorp was designated a landmark in 1969 by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Our firm obtained approval for the Window Master Plan in 2010 from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission for the replacement of 1,600 windows designed to replicate the original historic wood window details. New mahogany windows outfitted with insulating glass units will be manufactured for 12 different window types per original designs. Our careful attention to original historic details and use of modern window technology will provide decades of protection to this beloved New York City landmark.
