The Armory

The First Battery Armory, designed by Horgan & Slattery Architects, was built in 1903. The principal four story façade fronting on West 66th Street is composed of turrets, crenellations, sally ports and other castle-like features which convey the feeling of an impenetrable medieval fort. In 1988, the New York City Landmarks Commission granted 56 West 66th Street landmark designation status. Our firm was commissioned by The ABC Television Network in 2003 to design replacement historic fenestration and restore the granite and masonry façade of the head house. The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously approved our proposed fenestration and restoration designs for the First Battery Armory.
