Townhouse Renovation

The Carriage House, No. 168 East 73rd Street, New York, designed by Architect Charles W. Romeyn, was constructed in 1899. Designated a landmark in 1987 by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, Cosmo Veneziale, ARCHITECT, PLLC was commissioned to enlarge the original 2½ story converted carriage house / stable to a four story townhouse in 2005. The vertical and horizontal enlargement created space for four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder rooms and an elegant Master Bedroom / Bathroom suite. A minimalist modern interior is integrated by a magnificent museum quality glass, stainless steel and wood stair serving all four floors. The stair is bathed in natural light from the huge rooftop skylight. Strategically placed fixed windows provide a picture perfect snapshot of the Upper East Side. The 25 foot wide 6800 S.F. townhouse juxtaposes a modern interior with a Neo-Flemish Renaissance revival façade in a seamless transformation. Structural, mechanical and electrical designs provide the new dwelling with state of the art HVAC, lighting, audio / video and security systems. A truly grand alteration of a NYC landmark.
