Lobby Alteration

This six-story apartment building was built in 1948 and was designed in the Art Deco style with minor façade motifs.  The building is located midblock with the main building entrance tucked away in the middle of the building.  Our alteration design of the existing lobby which suffered from years of poor maintenance included restoration and reinterpretation of the original Art Deco interior and entrance.  We redesigned the lobby floor with a new terrazzo floor with crisp black concentric squares and black perimeter base illuminated with four ( 4 ) large “skylight” dome light fixtures.  Existing plaster walls were restored and new accent walls built with anodized aluminum framing and sycamore veneer panels.  A new railing was designed to replace the original steel railing with an anodized aluminum flat railing capped with solid sycamore.  The new double entrance doors, lobby window and entrance marquee were all designed with clear anodized aluminum.  An Art Deco circular mirror and Art Deco influenced furniture were the final details that returned the building to its original design and more.
